Twitter contest

It just doesn’t seem fair that it’s only Grant MacEwan College students participating in BlogCamp, does it?

Not to worry, now everyone can participate! This contest is going to be slightly different and we’re only going to promote it on Twitter.

So, here’s the deal. All you have to do is write one blog post.

On April 3, at noon Mountain Standard Time (Edmonton, Alberta) we’ll let you know what the topic is, right here:

Topic:

You’ve seen the first two parts of the Mike & Lenny videos, now write your own Mike & Lenny episode.

Here are the Mike & Lenny videos:

Mike & Lenny video, part 1

Mike & Lenny video, part 2

And why should you care? Well, we’re going to have some good prizes for this.

  • First prize is going to be $200 Cdn.

  • Second prize is going to be $50 Cdn.

We’ve got other cool prizes lined up and we’ll probably have even more by the time the contest is done.

Once you’re done your blog post, post the link on this page. Please make your blog post at least 300 words, and make sure it’s coherent and on topic.

Deadline:

April 3rd, 9 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (Edmonton, Alberta).

You don’t have much time. Nine hours like everyone else, but you’ve only got to write one post! How hard is that?

Minimum 300 words in 9 hours? If you typed half a word a minute you’d still almost make it. Stephen Hawking can type faster than that. He’d be pretty tough competition though.

That’s it? Well, almost. We’ll randomly draw names for the prizewinners and let the winners know. Then, if you win, just give us your name and address and we’ll send you all the prizes we’ve got for you. If we really like some of the posts we might have something extra for what we consider to be the best post.

It’s even better if you let all your friends know about the contest. After all, you’re a better writer than they are, aren’t you?

So, post the link here and let your friends know.

Our hashtag is: #blogcamp

Ladies and Gents, I do not partake in this blogging business very often, and consider myself quite a newbie at it. Such a newbie that I do not have a link to post here so you can read my blog. Instead, I give you my masterpiece now, in the comments section! Brilliant!

Mike and Lenny Episode 4 – Good times, good times.

After watching episode three, it seems redundant to go through Lenny’s first experiences with MacEwan, as we just went through Mike’s. I suppose you could use Lenny’s different tastes in subjects and locations to show other aspects of the school, but really…it might just be a bit dull. Instead, how about episode four becoming the series end. Ten-years into the future!

So the year is 2019, and a lot can in ten years. Lenny may have left welding and studied full-time for 2 years, or continued to work full-time while taking classes online for 4 years. Either way, we can now see how successful he is in episode four. Perhaps Mike‘s career requires frequent travel to cities across the globe, and after finishing a meeting in Edmonton he decides to stop in to see Lenny. It’s been a long time since they’ve seen each other, but Mike is pretty sure he has Lenny’s new address recorded somewhere on his fancy-future cell phone.

Lenny’s place looks lovely, not to glitzy, but he’s clearly well off. He collects something cheesy, like iPods because those obsolete things will be worth something again someday. Here you can toss in some jokes about the future, bringing out devices which both imitate and mock the iPhone, TV, mp3 player, forms of travel, and whatever floats your boat.

Mike and Lenny have a great time together. They talk about all the fun things their careers have led them to do, and all the different people met because of it. Lenny used his degree to start his own welding company, which is doing very well. He’ll be opening his 8th location in the fall. Mike is an international marketing consultant, with promising new firm. The company is using social media as a way to rise past its competitors.

The “young and hot” aviation girl walks into the house, yeah, she’s Lenny’s fiancee. She goes on about how well she’s doing, how well her friends did after graduating, and how she can’t thank MacEwan enough.

Mike departs, he has a plane to catch, but they promise to get together soon.

Then at some point Lenny ends up sharing how happy he is with a lamp, and thanks MacEwan.

That’s my idea anyway, hope you like it ☺

Hey Greg, you’re script is funny!

  7. Greg Gazin Says:

Thanks Jessica! I like your take on Mike and Lenny - I might add by 2019 it would probably be episode 4000 and Aviation Girl would be Galaxy Gal and Lenny would be watching reruns of Back to the Future 42 and Rocky 78 - Still alive but barely :)

Hey maybe we should take all the script submissions and mash them together and go to another dimension like the MacEwan Zone….Rod Sterling R.I.P

As an aside, a buddy of mine is at Cape Canaveral right now - if that’s what they still call it watching Atlas V Rocket take off. I guess 2019 is not so far away after all.

    Keep it Rock’n

    Greg.
