Surviving vs. Thriving
You know people like to make things smaller than they are. People are used to living small and thinking of a career as a job, something they sort of like. Not me. When my life fell apart and my almost marriage had failed, when I was living in my sisters basement, I took a career planning course.
I was lucky enough to have an instructor who was gentle and convinced me that it was possible to have a career I both love and enjoy.
I took the career planning with BGS enterprises and one of the possible careers I found was public relations. PR - writing and talking - my two loves and two greatest skills.
I looked into MacEwan because the government of Alberta site had it listed as a school where I could study PR. I saw the program was only a year intensive.
I wanted to get my life together again as fast as possible, so I applied to MacEwan.

I agree, people definitely think of a job or career as something that you do just because you have to, and therefore it’s acceptable to work a shit (am I allowed to swear on here?) job because “not everyone likes there job” (a direct quote from my Dad). I disagree, and I think most people my age do, which is why they jump from job to job and go back to school and aren’t willing to work a lot of unpaid overtime. I’ve been told by a number of people (parents, my employer, a Calgary Police officer) that this makes us lazy and selfish.
Again, I disagree. And I refuse to justify a bad job.
I want balance in my life - is that selfish? I want to enjoy my life, ’cause I only get one of them - is that wrong? So yeah, I’m going to jump around from job to job until I find something I really like. Because I’m not willing to settle for a crap job just ’cause I’m supposed to. Of course I won’t like everything about my job, and I will probably work some job for a little while that I don’t like because I need it to pay the bills. But only for a little while. And when I find a job I love, you’d better believe I’ll work my ass off for it, unpaid overtime and all.
Haha sorry, this wasn’t a comment so much as a mini-rant. My bad. But thanks for the opportunity to throw this out there!

It’s just been pointed out to me that there’s a spelling error in my previous post. So I just wanted to make sure that you all knew that it’s a direct quote, and the spelling error was part of what he said. So there.
