my blog camp experience.

I have learnt that i actually like blogging again! i used to blog atlot in highschool and stuff when i was pretty emo. then i grew out of it. I felt like it was super pretencious and trendy to write about yourself all the time. BUT after doing this i guess i see that you can use blogs to reach people about important issues. All the support  from sponsors and students and friends is amazing! I just think about what power i could have to change things in the world!

MOST OF ALL! this will be a memorable expirence that i will always remember and hopefully will have met some new people and made some new friends!

THANK YOU!!!!

government in the media

what role should they play?

I think absolutely none!!! freedom of speach is freedom of speach. If people dont agree with what is being shown in the media then don’t support it!! Your dollar is your vote. Dont like violent movies? DONT PAY TO WATCH THEM! Dont like shows with sex and violence, dont watch them. If you are worried about your kids watching them…then dont let them watch them, thats your responsibility as a parent, not the governments! I belive that all views and all opinions should be given a chance!!! Following is an interview with a person in a high level job relating to the healthcare industry:

Sean: What role do you think the government should play in the media?

Olivia: I hope I am answering this correct but I think social media is a central role in expressing the views of the publics both back to the governments and for the governments to interact with the constituents. ignore the sentence structure.

Sean: what are your views on censorship?

Olivia: I have strong views that we should limit censorship.

Sean: Why do you feel that way?

Olivia: How are you able to communicate effectively if everything is censored. Don’t get me wrong,I respect that we need to communicate in an open manner but I am not for disrespectful harmful or objectionable information being spread. so begs the question of how you can both - right? have both sorry

would this mean i am neutral???

Sean: hmm can you recall any situations in your career or life where censorship has been a good thing? Or wait.. i guess how would you even know if it was censored right? hahaha.

Sean: So then….can you recall any times when censorship has been detrimental?

Olivia: Yes - for sure - I know of events that may not have been portrade to the public appropirately - maybe others thought they should not know all the info but if they had they could have made their ownn decisions

this is common place in media

Sean: any by the company you work for? Your last name and place of work will remain secret

Olivia: no not my company for sure that is not a joke they are open an upfront

but in other areas of work I have been involved in it is common place

and if you publish my name your toast…..speaking of censorhsip….

Sean: first names only! dont worry

Olivia: ok sweetie. as along as my name is never used. can you change my first name to Olivia?

Olivia: some people feel by keeping details back ( i.e censorhsip) that it is better for those who are getting the info so they are not alarmed and some high level executives feel that only they know how others will react. they lose perspective on the rights of the public to know the truth.

Sean: and you have expirenced this during your career? sorry if im taking you out of your comfort zone…

Olivia: prior careers over 20 years ago which is why i left.

Olivia: ok, if I can’t be identified I am fine.

Sean: Soooo any details for pesky diggers?

Olivia: well you could use the real live sitatuions of the health authorities who did not provide details to people who may have been infected with Hep C as a result of dirty operating equipemnt

what woudl you call that?

Sean: a ditry little secret! thats what i would call it!

Olivia: hey would call it cencsorship? correct. keeping information secret because they think it is good for the people not to worry meanwhile people could be getting sick and even infecting others.

Sean: thank you so much for your help!

Sean inspired by Kittens!

OMG OMG OMG i love this video sooooooooo much!!!

So basically i want to talk about cute animal videos. Like many 50 year old ladies, this is my part time hobby, watching cute animal videos on youtube. LIKE YOU DON’T! everyone should just come clean and admit to their animal video addictions.

Pretty much the the best blog on the subject is www.fuckyoupenguin.blogspot.com  i apologize for the profanity in the link, but it is seriously the funniest blog on the face of the earth.

CHECK IT OUT!

THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN GIVE THIS A THUMBS DOWN!!! EVERYTIME YOU GIVE THIS POST A THUMBS DOWN A KITTEN DIES.

If i havent challenged you enough with this post, then consider this: Think back to a time when an animal was your bestfriend everyone has an animal moment to think back to, then think about how awesome animals are and support anything that is against animal cruelty!

ON THE TOPIC!

on the topic of ethics. we should turn off the unused computers. we are impacting the environment, wasting electricity.

WASTEFUL!

i asked them to turn them off. but i think i might.

I think we all need to take a few moments in our days and think about how much we can conserve  just by doing a few simple things like not flushing and turning off lights.

how i decided about school.

First of all making the decision to go to school was helped by the fact that i lived near the West Edmonton Mall. The Mall has a VERY large population of mallrats, you know those kids that just hang out at the mall, ask you for cigarettes and play dance dance revolution all day long.

mallrats

YEAH THOSE MALLRATS. Seeing these guys made me want to get to school so i could get a job and contribute to society like a normal human.

Macewan came up as an option because of the great class sizes and instructors here. One of my instructors went to Cambridge and im pretty sure my Organic chem prof went to Oxford. WOW. so awesome profs and cheaper tuition for smaller class sizes ALL WITH A UNI TRANSFER PROGRAM!! why not?

Mike and Lenny should…

Visit home! or transfer to U of A. LOL.

I feel that this would shine a lot of light on Macewan’s transfer program. this might help us get new students who want to go to U of A and dont know that there is a transfer program here! Think about the antics that could ensue with the transfer video guys!!!

OIL COUNTRY!

Temporarily we probably will. Overall, most people in Alberta currently enjoy a pretty good standard of living, and whether we admit it or not it’s a lot better than the majority of people in other provinces. Because of this we are less vulnerable to the immediate effects of the crisis. Although we may see prices going up, and business going down, I think it’s safe to say there are more than a few people in Alberta who were financially stable enough prior to the onset of the crisis that we can go unaffected for a while. BUUUUT…in the future, if things continue in the same direction we might actually be worse off than other regions. As far as economical diversity goes, Alberta is severely lacking. Like I mentioned earlier, we are an oil based region and we rely on it in almost every sector of our economy. If the demand for oil and gas ever went down there is little else we could rely on. One sixth of Alberta’s population of 3, 306, 400 – or about 551,066 people are employed by the petroleum industry.* That doesn’t even include all of the “petroleum related” industries and businesses that probably only exist because of the oil boom we were experiencing.

This Post is SHOCKING!

Should Tasers be banned or not?

NO!

think about all the rapists and molesters that would be so happy if people werent carrying around tasers.

BASICALLY THIS GUY IS THE REASON WE SHOULD ALL HAVE TASERS,AND ON THAT NOTE I PRESENT “THE JESUS”

would you rather get tasered or shot? cause i would rather get tasered and police have to defended themselves somehow. If you are going to get tasered by the police chances are you probably deserve it. why put yourself in that position? stay home and study instead of going out and doing crime!

Do business ethics need to change?

Well should they?

When you have some spare time go on google earth and look at the oil sands. Here is just a preview of our planetary exploitation in the name of capitalism and big business:

I don’t think many companies value the the environment as much as they should. They see nature as something to be owned, sold and exploited. Their motivation to change and institute new “green” eco-friendly campaigns are not always motivated by a concern for the environment. It seems that most companies view “green” campaigns a a way to expand their consumer base.  It’s pretty awesome that some companies are starting to almost respect our Earth, but why are they doing it? because they legitimately respect our planet or because they want to get your $$$$ by slapping a eco symbol on their products. Since there is actually no legitimate environmental standard set or enforced internationally these little slogans mean very little. So as not to be the general pretentious blog jerks out there i am tapping some resources available to me: My friend in environmental ethics at the U of A. What follows is an AIM interview with Jalene Anderson:

Sean:like wtf thats what you are taking

Jalene: im taking environmental ethics

Jalene:  but yes its obvz an oxymoron

Jalene:  most businesses, especially in alberta make profit by being unethical…even though it kinda depends on what your personal morals are, but just think of like the oil sands and how they completely base their business on exploiting the environment, regardless of what people or animals end up getting affected. and when you think about it nearly everything runs off oil money in alberta, even businesses who arent “unethical” probably buy fuel from them, or products, or make their profits selling to rig pigs who have all the money

Sean: so how can we improve ?

Jalene: I guess more regulation for environmental and social standards and other business practices, but that’s irrelevant unless the government is willing to enforce it. Considering the situation with Suncor, just getting charged for unrestricted pollution over something that happened over a year ago, and some are saying that the Tory government likely kept it quiet until then because of the election.

Sean: What kind of legistlation do we have about environmental ethics in place?

Jalene: We have lots. There are some for levels of ambient air quality and guides for oil processing and emissions levels and acid deposition, and where this occurs, etc etc. We have lots, the problem is that enforcing them doesn’t always happen. The burden of proof still lies outside the companies in most cases, meaning instead of them having to prove they are doing it right, it’s up to others, like the people living in Fort Chip and dealing with all the oil sands pollution to prove that they are doing something wrong and being affected by it.

It’s messed up.

Sean: THANKS! I think I might hang out with Tj and Brittany tonight want to come?

Jalene: Mabez.

Sean Strat?

SOOOOO BASICALLY WE NEED TO ENFORCE OUR ETHICS LEGISLATION!!!
