Will Alberta better weather the current economic crisis than other regions?

Let’s see. Alberta is a province that has a big advantage compared to the other provinces in Canada.

The oil sands ventures probably was the cause of the economic boom in Alberta for the past decade and the Alberta government was the only province that was debt free last year.

So will Alberta better weather the current economic crisis that other regions?

Tough to say.

The government had recently taken a large sum of debt to improve the economic recession.

With the oil prices dropping and the environmental issues regarding our oil industry, it’s tough to forsee what is going to happen in the future.

Hopefully the economy recovers soon but until confidence is restored within the people, the progress will be stagnant.

If we keep telling consumers to don’t spend their money because of the economy, that will be detrimental for any improvement cause we know businesses are driven by buying power and the power comes from us, the consumers.

Perhaps the government should consider implementing programs that can facilitate good and sound investments, we might not be so afraid to put our money in their hands.

Best Japanese Food in Edmonton

We decided to give Furusato a try cause apparently it was rated one of the best Japanese restaurants in Edmonton.

Located along Whyte Ave and 101 st I believe,

It’s a lil old restaurant which not many people can notice the entrance but for sure, will not regret the experience once they step inside.

Most of the patrons were the local Japanese and a lot of Asian people. *looks promising* :P

Anyway,

We ordered the Dinner Combos cause we’re cheap and we wanna try everything :P

Special Bento Box that came with everything.

The Best DIMSUM in Edmonton!

Dimsum restaurant - Birdnest of Beijing’s -  serves the awesome’st dimsum in the city.

Sadly though, they have not been busy lately and therefore not preparing as much dishes as before :(

But the stuff they usually put out is always good so hopefully they stay in business cause we don’t wanna lose them as our fav. dimsum spot!

Due to my incompetence in Cantonese, I only know the names of some dishes :P

The rest, I’m just guessing it so don’t blame me if it’s wrong kays ;)

Time for foodie pixxies!

Let Sailesh Get YOU!!

The Student Association at my college had organized a free show from Sailesh - The Uncensored Hypnotist.

It was by far,

the MOST amazing live show I’ve ever watched!

I’ve seen this guy on TV before and honestly, I thought the participants were paid to do what he asked them to do in a hypnotic state.

Well, well.

Guess I’m no longer a skeptic anymore cause Seriously.

IT’s REAL SH*T!

He asked the students to volunteer themselves and the brave ones did it.

Honestly I would have done it but I was like you know what … I don’t wanna embarrassed myself in front of that hot guy *ahem* and so NO.

I was happy being an audience and my oh my, was I happy!

It was so hilarious watching those people on stage doing what they WOULDN’T be caught doing in their normal state.

Hypnosis is sucha crazy thing that it’s a lil overwhelming but nonetheless, SPECTACULAR.

Controlling one’s mind with words is just WOW.

I took some videos with my phone but I don’t have the cable to upload them >.<

Seriously. The stuff he makes the participants do …. if they knew it … I don’t think they would be able to handle it  LOL.

Imagine this,

You’re in the hypnotic state and the expression on your face is permanently I-Just-Woke-Up  look.

Then the hypnotist asks you to do something and you will do it as told.

So,

this is one of the scenario at the show which just got me laughin my guts out.

He asked the 5 guys and 3 girls to picture themselves in a high school dance.

It was the last dance and they need to find a partner to dance it.

The twist is,

They are only attracted to the SAME sex and must do what it takes to attract that person.  Since there are 5 guys, a threesome is allowed.

Once the hypnotist wakes them up and music starts playing, the participants wil do as their told.

So there are these three guys which I swear, was the best participants of them all!

They’re like so typical Canadian guys and pretty homophobic in nature.

Once they were awaken,

they started gyrating with each other …. hip to hip and slowly moved on to ass grabbin!

They were grabbing each other’s ass I kid you not.

Of course, the hypnotist was guiding them all the way … telling them what to do :P

And of course,

being uncensored as he is,

He told them to Bump n Grind hard :P

and boy … DID THEY GRINDED HARD!

It was seriously sex on the dancefloor I kid you not!

and they’re MEN!

One guy in the middle and both were humping on him!

IT WAS FREAKING HILARIOUS and I ALMOST FELL OUTTA MY SEAT LAUGHING!

I guess it’s pretty hard to imagine so better go Youtube and check out for Sailesh, Hypnotist.

I guaranteed you’ll pee in your pants watching this dude!

Anyways here’s one from Youtube.  Enjoy!

In this session, Sailesh hypnotized them into thinking that he’s naked. Watch their reactions closely!

Should Tasers be banned or not?

No, cause we girls would like to have one to zap the creeper’s balls who is trying to buy us a drink and take us home later for some UH-HUH ;)

Yes, if some smart-ass drops the taser into a swimming pool and kill those lil kids trying to learn not to drown in t here.

I don’t know.

Maybe NO cause it may keep the streets safer and maybe YES cause someone can die from a Taser zap.

It’s hard to decide cause I never thought of it before.

Well, I am a law-abiding citizen and until the cop is offering me to the nearest lock-up, I never gave a thought on being a threat to the people around me.

Sure it is dangerous since someone had actually died from being tasered by cops.

In fact, Amnesty International USA wrote an article about deaths caused by Taser guns in the US.

According to the report, deaths that occurred between June 2001 and August 2008, showed that the number of people who died in the United States after being struck by police Tasers has reached 334.

Amnesty International’s report — which includes a study of 98 autopsies that were independently reviewed by a forensic pathologist — found that 90 percent of those who died after being struck with Tasers were unarmed and many did not appear to present a serious threat.

I supposed that Tasers can be very very dangerous if not used properly.

Ah-HAH.

Now here’s the question.

How can we decide when is it appropriate to use the Tasers?

Banning it obviously wouldn’t require us to think at all. But if we choose to allow it, there must be policies in place to control its’ usage.

Since there’s a high probability of death when one is Tasered, it should be categorized with the GUNS since it is almost equally as dangerous.

If strict guidance on how the taser should be used is in place and how long you can zap that person, perhaps deaths can be avoided.

But then again,

How should I know?

I don’t know how does it feel like to be tasered. Perhaps if someone zap me now, I can probably give a better answer :P

Nonetheless, I agree that Tasers should NOT be banned.

Hey, I wanna buy one so I can keep myself safe walking home anyways so … where can I get one? ;)

What Ethics?

Ethics.

Ah, my favourite topic.

Considering that all the courses I’ve taken so far has some ethics element in it and that’s like 9 courses so far.

Heck, I even had a whole course on Ethics cause I had to take it as a programme requirement.

Mind you, it was an 8 hours class on a Saturday morning!

If it’s up to me, that is definitely unethical depriving us students from our precious sleep to attend an EIGHT hours class on a SATURDAY morning when they knew that we’ve been partying hard the night before *uh-huh* ;)

Oh yea, did I mentioned it was 2 Saturdays for the whole semester?

Glad to say I finished the whole 16 hours and now I’m as ethical as I can be after 16 hours of ethical brainwashing :P

However,

as much as I hated waking up 730 am on a Saturday, I actually learned some real good stuff  in that class.

The teacher was awesome and was not a bore as I thought she would be.

Since I got an -A in that course, I can actually tell you what ethics is really all about ! yeah right >.<

So yeah,

Is business ethics an Oxymoron? Read more »

How Did I Ended Up at Grant Macewan College?

It’s pretty simple actually. I would love to rant and rave about the college but that wasn’t the reason why I picked Grant Mac as my instituion of choice.

I came to Canada to continue my undergraduate studies at University of Alberta.

I picked U of A as my choice not because of some deep research I did on the school.

In fact, an ex-high school mate of mine whom I never talked to in school before told me about U of A on MSN cause I found out that she was there doing some science degree.

Smart ol me took the advice and applied for U of A without any research on it and there!

Here I am, in Edmonton “enjoying” the cold, freezing, non-for-human living temperature right now.

Needless to say, I was excited because I found out on my first day of school there that U of A was one of the top 5 universities in Canada.

Yay for Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food degree on the way …. or was on the way >.<

I didn’t survive my first year cause I wasn’t used to their system and knew nobody here enough to help me go through the ordeal.

Imagine,

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 2 in my first semester there and my teacher wasn’t exactly the best one around. He probably knew what he was talking but I certainly didn’t cause i fell asleep most of the time in front of him the chemistry language wasn’t speaking to me properly.

I did finished the class though …

with a C+.

And then it hit me,

I can’t do this.

But I was like, “Hey you know what… maybe it’s cause of the homesickness and the WINTER” yea, I couldn’t find a better reason and didn’t wanna admit my stupidity and so I decided to give it another try.

Na-ah!

Wrong move.

I took Physiology and Food Microbiology on my next semester and profoundly failed the courses with flying red color.

and then it HIT me real hard this time.

I’m not cut out for sciences.

The university environment is not for me.

Classes are too big, teachers are impersonal, nobody cares about you, and everything is up to you!

I was an international student and I wasn’t exactly brave enough to ask the prof. any questions in front of 300 crazy smart students~!

and that is how I started looking for different alternatives.

I knew sciences wasn’t my forte and I don’t wanna work in a lab or anything to do with it.

I talked to a lot of people in regards of a different education option and I’d say I got some pretty interesting information.

Apparently not as many students with university degrees get good jobs immediately compared to college students.

That was quite shocking to me cause I assumed companies are dying to hire university graduates but I guess it’s different here.

In Malaysia,

Companies would look at which university that you had graduated from and if you graduated from an overseas university, you’ll have more advantage versus local graduates.

Over here,

Companies look at the quality of the programme of the institution that you had graduated from and that’s why colleges like NAIT and Grant Macewan College appeals better because their education programme are very catered to the real industry.

I figured,

since I had wasted 2 years of my school at U of A, I have to graduate fast and be guaranteed of a job later or not I’ll be taking a boat ride home to Malaysia.

So, I did my research and finally narrowed my choices to NAIT and Grant Macewan.

I went to talk to counselors at both institutions and no guesses where I ended up at :P

Just by looking at the campus, I already had a good vibe with G.Mac.

For one, their two-tower thingies really looked like those Two Towers in Lord of the Rings :P

Plus, the campus is way newer and the facilities are just amazing.

The counselor at NAIT was not as helpful as Grant Mac’s.

In fact, her willingness and enthusiastiasm pretty much convinced me that I belong here.

and I’m proud to say that I never regret the day I started my education at Grant Macewan College.

I’ve heard many good things about Grant Mac too and that even made me more optimistic with my choice.

The college website has really good information on the programmes and the opportunities in the industry.

The programme that I am in now offers the an Internship programme which is ideal to my plans after school. The internship will give me an opportunity to gain some experience before starting my warfare in the real world ;)

and that is why today,

I am very happy that I chose to do the Bachelor of Applied Degree in International Business and Supply Chain Management at Grant Macewan College and I will definitely recommend this school to future potential students.
