Alberta holding on?

So, Will Alberta better weather the current economic crisis than other regions?
Good question, who really knows..
I look at our dependence on exporting of natural resources specifically oil sands, as a weakness when trying to determine whether we will be better off than other provinces. We rely on the world price of oil which has a high degree of variability, and also export something like 85% of our products/resources to the United States. All our eggs in one basket? (Cheesy?)
The recent mismanagement of the Heritage fund doesn’t instill in me the utmost confidence in our provincial governments financial decision making…
That being said, the worlds need for oil and other natural resources (lumber, water) will not completely disappear in an economic recession. Manufacturing and technological industries on the other hand tend to suffer more drastically, which are the staple industries of other provinces (Ontario, Quebec).
Overall i’d say we will better weather the economic crisis due to the world always wanting a little bit of what we got..
Whew, #4 post done… Thanks for your votes!
Cheers,
Pfins
